I am a philosopher of cognitive science, and my research focuses on emotion and its relation to cognition. I am particularly interested in the "embodied approach" in cognitive science, and in its implications for our understanding of the cognition-emotion relation. In my work I draw on both analytic and continental philosophical traditions, as well as theoretical and experimental work in psychology and neuroscience. From January 2010 I will be working on an ERC-funded project titled "Emoting the Embodied Mind", for which I am the Principal Investigator. The project will last 5 years, and will focus in particular on (1) the place of bodily awareness in emotion experience, (2) the relationship between natural purposes and emotions, (3) the extended nature of emotions, and (4) how to reconceptualize rationality and control from an embodied-emotional mind perspective. Part of the project will involve collaborating with Kim Wright in the Mood Disorders Centre. |
