AHRC Masters studentships

Closing date for applications: 12 March 2010

This year we will be offering four Research Preparation Masters studentships in the following areas:

• Archaeology
• Classics and Ancient History
• Middle Eastern and African Language and Culture
• Religious Studies

The Research Preparation Master’s Scheme, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), provides support for Masters students intending to go on to PhD whose programme will prepare them for doctoral study.

Eligibility

The main criteria are:

• Residence - Awards are restricted to students meeting Home/EU residency criteria. UK nationals resident in the UK are normally eligible for a full award (EU nationals resident in the UK for the previous three years may also be eligible). EU nationals resident in the EEA (wider than EU) are usually eligible for a fees-only award. Overseas applicants are normally not eligible.
  
  
• Academic - You will be expected to have achieved a 2:1 honours degree. For PhD study, successful completion of a Masters is expected in addition. Candidates with overseas qualifications should check that their qualification meets the AHRC expected standard.
  
  
• Subject - Your topic must be within the subject areas covered by the AHRC.  Some postgraduate programmes may span across AHRC subject areas, in which case all subject areas should be listed on the form, to allow the application to be fully considered.

To apply

• You need to complete the AHRC Masters studentships application form (word doc) and submit it to Liz Hull by Friday 12 March 2010. By completing this form you will automatically be considered for the Humanities and Social Sciences Masters full fee bursaries, so you do not need to complete the separate form for that competition.
  
  
• As for all of our awards, you must apply for postgraudate study at the University via the normal university application form. Please make sure your application includes two academic references. You must have applied to the University and have submitted all your supporting documents by Friday 12 March 2010 to be eligible, so please submit your application form as soon as possible.

 

Selection process

All shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview and will be required to give a short presentation. We will be organising a series of activities for potential applicants on the interview days including research workshops, campus tours and a lunch with academics and current students.
